one thing i learned, hes not worried about it
I have done A LOT of repairs (although I don’t usually mess with the chips, but I am about to get into it, just to know it) but I am having an issue that I have never had before, IF I put a famicom game in it, it goes to the first screen, but it won’t go any further after that, I put an actual North American game in it, and zilch… nothing… not even the opening game screen. Any guesses as to with it is? Yes the screen is black when I turn it on. I also subscribed… and you are great at what you do, not everyone gets 100% there’s are some things that just can’t be fixed. But yeah! You do great work man!
Try the burn in test cart to see if it helps you diagnose a bit. Some games with a bad sound chip or a bad cpu will post to the “licensed by Nintendo” screen and lock up. Also make sure the game cart is going in the proper way, I’ve had game pcbs out of their shell that I’ve mistakenly inserted the opposite way before. Your issue could be many things. Thanks for subbing and watching.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer I have tried several different ways to push the cart in, with and without the top of the shell, and yeah.. I was already on aliexpress 😂 sorry, I commented on one of your subscribers posts and seen you tell him about them … looks like they are only like 9 bucks?
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer and thanks for the advice!
@@davidcarter1157 yeah they’re relatively cheap, might take a while to show up. Do you have an everdrive? You could also load the rom on that and try, I’ve heard sometimes it works to boot the burn in test cart rom.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer nah, I don’t. … I can’t believe I have done repairs all this time, without one… all the hours I could of saved 🤣
I'm having a weird problem with my childhood SNES. It randomly acts like the start button has been pressed mid game even though I hadn't touched it. I'm using 2 first party controllers that work fine on another SNES I have, I've swapped out the controller ports (including ribbon) and it still does it. Have you ever seen this before? And if so, is there any info you could give me on how to track down and fix the problem?
A faulty CPU will sometimes press buttons especially the start and shoulder buttons. I’ve had that issue in the past. It’s been so long since I’ve repaired these consoles, I’m not sure if I uploaded any fix similar to yours to my channel.
www.projectvb.com/nss/logs.htm#cpu_fail Check Misc CPU failures, some of them include multiple buttons being registered. Very similar to what you’re describing.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamerthank you for your response. A failed CPU is what I was afraid of but it does seem like the most likely culprit at this point. It is one of the newer 1994 models without the big metal sound block in the back which means it has a CPU B but from watching this video here it looks like CPU A and CPU B are interchangeable?
@@ChewyChicken589 yeah all CPUs are interchangeable, I’ve personally never had a bad CPU-B, not saying they don’t go bad buts more rare. Check to make sure it’s CPU-A or B, it’s probably an A.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer I just checked it yesterday and it's definitely a CPU b. I think it may have been fried when I foolishly used an aftermarket power block that I don't think was 100% compatible. I have since learned my lesson and bought a genuine Nintendo power block but that's what I think it may have been
what if the chip is corrupted?
Ahhh. so easy when the fault is obvious haha.
Hello! I just found your channel as im really getting into trying to deep dive and fix issues with snes lots I bought aside from simple stuff like cleaning the pins and board trying to get them to work. I wanted to ask a few questions if you wouldnt mind sharing some of your knowledge! How did you learn to micro solder? I only have very basic soldering experience and would love to know how you learned/praticed your soldering skills. Also, where do you buy all your caps from? Alot of places sell full recap kits but they are fairly expensive. I was looking for a way to possibly just buy a bunch of caps in bulk.
I learned by basic trial and error, just pulling chips off and trying to put them back. It helps having all the tools needed and not trying to cut corners with bad tools. I ordered my caps off mouser, it’s much cheaper but you have to pick up each value individually and double check you don’t miss a value.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer Thanks for the reply! I have a 1chip I received in one of the lots that is posting to my burn in cart, but freezes on test and any game played. I really want to save it so I reckon ill practice some micro soldering and hope for the best!
I have a huge amount of super nintendo parts. Would you be interested?
Useless, razer is the worst, trust me, I dont remember how many mail i sent trying to get my razer naga trinity fixed, but they didn't care, idk the problem, i even wanted to pay an extra for repair my mouse (mine is out of warranty) but still nothing, idk what to say, if i had to waste my money i would rather burn money instead of giving to a chimp company from calabria
Well I've used my Razer naga(like the one in the video) since 2013 and only now i have to replace/clean the click modules, so I dont know about trusting you on that one. I understand that you're having a frustrating situation, try see if anyone you know might be able to fix it for a reward or try call some repairshops(shops that repaires phones might be interested).
I am about to replace the switches for a Razer Naga 2012 and a Razer Naga Molten. I would like to go ahead and replace the wheel encoder and button while I'm in both of these. Where to you find the proper part numbers to buy for these? Thanks!
I ordered these parts like 10 years ago, to be honest I think I googled the make and model of the mice and got a parts list somewhere. I’m sorry I don’t remember.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer No worries! Thanks!
I have a American Gladiators on the NES that glitches on the start screen then when it loads to the next screen it not glitched, then when it gets to the one player 2 player screen it glitches again.. its crazy. What do you think it could be?
Might need a good cleaning, also inspect the board for any breaks.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer oh believe me i did a cleaning big time, and the things that are sticking out the where the chips are solder i noticed that some of them were bent, i tried straighten them but i dont know if that will help. What would u recommend when it comes to maybe cleaning everything including the board.
@@ButtaMilkBiscuitsGaming 99% alcohol with a tooth brush scrub the whole board. If your board looks corroded you might have a broken trace somewhere, try probing with a multimeter for continuity between the contact pins and the chip legs.
@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer okay will do thanks for the help!
It sounds like the 1-chip might be my problem. I'm getting dark, blurry video on my SFC. I don't have steady enough hands for solder work though. Might be screwed.
Hey, I have a SHVC-CPU 01 that when turned on the PSU enters into protection mode, I have removed the Voltage regulator from the PCB to see if that was the shorted part but it does the same, does the SNES have more than 1 voltage regulator??
Could you give any tips for slight bumps or knocks causing freezing and audio to cut to single note noise?
Did that Super Nintendo commit a murder or something
Wow I'm impressed to see someone else that is willing to go through all this work to restore an old gaming mouse they like. Thought I was the only one who loved their mouse this much. Mine was the second one you showed(gen 2) and I refuse to let it die. Thank you.
Me too. Ordering some switches now any recommendations? First time doing a mouse repair the old nagas are to good compared to the chroma and layer series. They feel and are cheap comparatively.
Miss your content brother
my voltage regulator shows 7.60 in output and 4.80 input, I already replaced all caps, and rectifier, also its an aftermarket AC adapter that's compatible too, could there be a resistor that's failed?
I heard the Sega Picture Magic has a 32x board in it.
The link isn’t good anymore. Do you know of a different place to order those chips from?
If it's sharp, you can always take and get the magic eraser from Mister claim magic eraser that's a good product
This worked perfectly for me. Great video!
Really helpful video, quite easy to follow. My modkit was a tad different, it came with three resistors, not two, and the audio wasn't fed through it (which seemingly isn't neccessary), it only had three holes going in and two holes going out. I got the audio from the same place as shown in the video but directly connected the wire to the two plugs. I also didn't cut the legs of the RF modulator, like this video showed, I desoldered the whole RF modulator and then used double-sided tape to put it into the case (it weights almost nothing and there's a lot of space in the case) and I didn't remove the transistor (not sure if that is neccessary at all), but that was actually by accident because I somehow skipped that part of the video. I also didn't cut holes into the case, instead I routed an AV cable through the original hole the RF cable used and then used hotglue to glue the three plugs with the AV cable connected insinde the case. So if for some reason somebody in the future wants to restore the console to it's original state, they can simply remove the AV mod and solder the RF modulator back in.
you got a link to that archive? Ive got an old SNES and apparently the one game i tried to test it with is...Starfox XDXD gonna get a different game to diagnose if its at least semi servicable or if Ill have to source a chip
bro i have 2 snes one with the plug and play sound board and one like this one in the video, the problem is on the one with plug and play sound board i cant play killer instinct in that snes because i get corrupted graphics and snes freezes, the same cartridge works well on my other snes the one like this video, and i just got the problem on Killer Instinct Game have you ever seen this error?
All of Your older Videos are Popping up on my feed, Hope all is well Brother...

Where can I get a service cart like that?
I got mine from Etsy years ago, but they have them on aliexpress last time I checked.
I opened mine up to try to fix a black screen and I couldn’t get it to turn back on after that
Wow. I have been working on old CV consoles for ages and have never seen one or the controllers in such horrible condition. Good work! LONG LIVE COLECO VISION!
Feel like a Bad Subscriber, I dont know how I missed this video from a Year ago...
Lol what’s up man?

Way to go fellow gamer nice job saving that super mario all stars super mario world and the ninja warriors your video helped me save a super Nintendo entertainment system and nintendo super famicom
For a fix for me so my carts work cause ill never sell this will do thanks man🎉
Could you please link the mouse foot? I would like to attempt this on my old naga molten
So leaving residue from no clean tacky flux is a no-no?
Usually if you have a no clean flux it shouldn't be a problem, but for the sake of cheap insurance cleaning it off always helps because some fluxes can cause voltage leaks or interference even when they say it's okay to leave it behind. For that reason I always clean because I don't trust any flux! Also for cleanliness it's a peace of mind to eliminate any doubts.
The good thing about the old school rosin after it cools down and solidifies it acts as a insulator so if any liquid damage happens and it's covered in rosin then the chip is most likely safe. Rosin is also way easier to clean all you need is ipa alcohol. No clean fluxes were designed to be left on the board and can be a nightmare to clean off. The best way to clean off no clean is after it's heat up, wipe up as much as you can with a napkin or paper towel q tips as much as you can then use ipa alcohol but while it's hot. If you do it cold it's going to leave a mess everywhere.
@@rubenmejia4881 my concern is more stuff that is left behind under a surface mount component, like for example an smd capacitor. It's easy to clean off, just not in that situation.
@@kennethshiro9500 yeah you should be fine
@@rubenmejia4881also fyi I use the SRA no clean paste which works fantastically. No clean liquid seems like it's basically nail polish remover and works horribly.

@@PunkNDisorderlyGamer bro i need that cartridge burn in test where found one :c?
@@oiezi4782 I got mine from an Etsy shop but you can get one from www.ocdreproductions.com
Great❤❤❤
Nice job!
You need to get yourself a dental pick (Walmart in the dental care area) so you can gently probe the pins to see if they are loose. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a pin that has detached and you can solder just that one pin down as opposed to replacing the whole chip. After you have soldered in a different chip you can do the probe test just to make sure everything is connected well too.
Can you help me plz🙏 mine power up 1 sec but no screen and light turn off.
do you think the version that is 3.54" H is spacious enough for this build? I would like a bit smaller in height version is possible. Thanks for your help.
I would say so.

Nice 👍
11:40 don't do this, electrical tape doesn't dispel heat. You have a big, almost empty plastic case, put a strip of Kapton tape on the bottom of the board and then fix it in place
Hey buddy nice restoration video! When you soak the rusty stuff in vinegar don't add baking soda, it neutralizes this acetic acid which you need to disolve the rust. Also the chlorides in the baking soda are going to promote rust.
If u use a air blower on chips, the will place themself in the right place allmost every time.
